Strict Size Target
Compress PDF to 200KB
Built specifically for upload portals that reject anything over 200KB - government forms, college applications, job boards, and exam registrations. Pick High compression and you are done.
To hit 200KB: always select High Compression. It targets 75-90% reduction.
Common 200KB Upload Limits
If you landed here, you are probably trying to fit one of these portals:
| Portal type | Typical file limit | Recommended preset |
|---|---|---|
| Government job portals (UPSC, SSC, state exams) | 100-200KB | High |
| Common App / college essay uploads | 200-500KB | High |
| Visa & passport application sites | 200KB-1MB | High |
| Bank KYC document upload | 200-500KB | High |
| University exam form scan | 100-300KB | High |
Still Above 200KB? Try This Order
The High preset hits 200KB for most documents. If yours is unusually image-heavy, work through this checklist:
- Compress with High once. 90% of the time you are done after this step.
- If still over 200KB, compress the result a second time. A second High pass usually peels off another 30-50%.
- Convert color scans to black and white before compressing. Most ID-scan portals accept B&W. This alone can cut size by 4x.
- Crop blank margins. Whitespace in scans still takes up encoded bytes.
- Last resort: split the PDF. If the portal limit is per file (not per submission), 2 small files often beat 1 squeezed-too-hard file.
Heads up: Some government portals also enforce a minimum size (e.g. 50KB). Compressing too aggressively can fail validation. Read the form instructions before squeezing further.
